Greg Caz is one half of party protagonists BRAZILIAN BEAT BROOKLYN and has hosted the Sunday night 70s samba-soul dance party for the last three years, becoming a Brooklyn institution in the process.
DJs Greg Caz and Sean Marquand both Portuguese speaking Brazilophiles, have, for three years, been building "Brazilian Beat" Sunday night weekly at Brooklyn's Black Betty, with three mix CDs released to date, available from www.turntablelab.com. The two have attracted a loyal following that turns out week after week to hear the duo's selection of 60s and 70s tracks, classics and back-street obscurities, from Brazil. In addition Greg Caz has a residency at the Wednesday night Brazilian party at Nublu, Manhattan. Check Out www.nublu.net
Greg has honed a sharp and effective party rocking technique that has earned him a fast-growing following among the denizens of New York nightlife. He cut his teeth collecting and spinning soul, funk, jazz, reggae, Latin and hip hop, but his father's Brazilian record collection planted a seed that is bearing impressive fruits today.
Greg's latest compilation CD, Baile Funk 2, was recently played in its entirety on German radio show Trans Europe Express and Greg was interviewed in NYC for Berlin based magazine Backspin. Early in the summer, Brazil's biggest broadcasters Globo filmed one of Greg's DJ sets on the back of his increasingly favored reputation after offering musical support to concerts by Jorge Ben, Yerba Buena and Dom Salvador. Greg will be supporting Ed Motta for his New York visit of his next tour.
Greg Casseus will be coming over to Europe at the start of 2005 and is now available for DJ bookings.
